ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Sandra Doorley won her bid to be reelected as Monroe County District Attorney.

The Republican incumbent defeated Democratic challenger Shani Curry Mitchell with with 56% of the vote.

“We maintained the majority, which is important in the legislature,” Doorley said after her victory on Tuesday.

“We still have the Monroe County’s DA office, myself. I feel like we still have a lot of energy. People can’t discount us anymore, we’re alive and well.”

Curry Mitchell said she’s still excited about the outcome.

“Of course we’re disappointed with the results but we’re very excited. We we’re able to get 70,000 votes for the first time candidate, for a first time candidate of color for the chief prosecutor in Monroe County. That’s a win.”

Leading up to Election Day — the race for Monroe County D.A. got national attention.

The New York Times published an article Monday morning about the funding behind advertisements which took aim at Doorley.

The ad in question has a declaimer stating it was funded by the “New York Justice and Public Safety PAC” which is financed by billionaire George Soros.
