There has ## just been received in New York the only report of the Nathan Straus soup kitchens in Jerusalem of which the following is a digest:
In round figures 77,000 meals were given to destitute rabbinical scholars, 143,000 to widowed mothers, 188,000 to aged poor and 200,000 to poor families. In addition to these regular recipients 15,000 meals were given to occasional applicants.
The Nathan Straus Soup Kitchen works in two branches, one in the old city, where 290, 000 meals were given, and one in the Meah S he arim section, where 342,000 meals were given. Meals are given only after the need in each case has been definitely established by a
responsible committee of members of the Jerusalem Jewish community. The budget for the upkeep of these Soup Kitchens is given in its entirety by Mr. Nathan Straus.
